Medical Directions Merges With The Ochre Group

Published on 30/08/2022

Medical Directions Australia, one of Australia’s premier providers of medical workforce solutions has joined The Ochre Group, leaders in the provision of primary care and medical recruitment services.

From July 1, 2022, Medical Directions Australia became known as Medical Directions, A Division of The Ochre Group.

The Ochre Group was founded by two proceduralist GPs in the NSW outback town of Bourke over 20 years ago and it has developed a strong reputation for delivering quality healthcare services across Australia, particularly into regional and rural communities. To date, it has been made up of two companies – Ochre Recruitment and Ochre Health.

Specialising in recruiting and placing locum and long-term doctors, Ochre Recruitment has long been a trusted partner of private and public health facilities across Australia and New Zealand.

Sister company, Ochre Health, operates a network of over 60 medical centres across five states and territories in partnership with over 400 doctors, as well as holding state government contracts to run hospital emergency departments in numerous rural towns.

The addition of Medical Directions adds a new dimension to The Ochre Group’s suite of services. Holding exclusive service arrangements with over 10 hospitals, including GP FastTrack clinics, across four NSW Local Health Districts, it has a proven track record in developing and operating innovative medical workforce service models with an emphasis on safety, effectiveness and sustainability.

Medical Directions and The Ochre Group also share the same values of operational excellence, integrity, innovation, empowerment and being community-minded. With a strong commitment to rural, remote and regional communities and a proven track record in developing meaningful relationships across the health sector, the synergies between the two organisations are strong.

Dermot Roche, Ochre Group CEO

Ochre Group CEO, Dermot Roche, highlights the benefits of the combination and says there is no down-side. “Medical Directions has been a long-term, trusted workforce solutions provider to many of Australia’s leading hospitals. Joining forces with the Ochre team will bring together significant capability and allow us jointly to continue investing in, and delivering on, our service promises to hospitals and healthcare providers around the country for the benefit of many communities. I would also like to emphasise that the Medical Directions team, led by Justin Ragenovich, will all continue under the new ownership structure so, from a client perspective, it will be business as usual”.

Justin Ragenovich, Medical Directions Founder

Justin Ragenovich, founder of Medical Directions Australia, says “We reached the point where it made sense for us to consider growth options. The Ochre Group was a natural choice for us as we have similar core values, with serving regional and rural parts of Australia in our DNA. The new partnership will ensure our collective clients are well looked after and our combined teams will bring long-term, sustainable healthcare solutions to many local communities”. Justin looks forward to remaining with the organisation in a Business Executive role.

Costa Intzirlis, Ochre Recruitment GM

Costa Intzirlis, General Manager of Ochre Recruitment, is excited about offering wider opportunities to the doctors who currently partner with both companies. “As well as facilitating higher quality care and further improving the health outcomes for the communities we have the privilege of serving, our merger with Medical Directions increases our capacity to offer our network of doctors more unique and more rewarding opportunities across more parts of Australia and New Zealand".
